Holes, cracks and knocks
Patches show for two reasons: filled over something soft, or the texture around them never matched. Damage gets cut back to sound board before anything is filled, then finished, textured to what is on the wall, and painted through.
Holes, cracks and knocks
What it involves
Often for
- Door-handle holes
- Cracks over doors and windows
- Dents and knocks
- Finding what caused the damage first
- Cutting back to sound board and fitting new
- Taping cracks across their length
- Matching the texture around the repair
- Painting out to the nearest corner
Step by step
How it goes
Look at the damage
Find what caused it and how far it goes before anything is cut.
Cut back and replace
Out to sound board, new board in, the edges taped so they stay closed.
Finish and match
Coated flat and textured to match what is already on the wall.
Paint to blend
Primed and painted out to the nearest corner, so the repair does not show as a square.
Inside the wall
Built layer by layer
Drag it to turn it. Choose a layer to see the wall as it stands at that step.
Primed and painted by the same crew, so the finish shows no seam.
The details
Done properly
Cut back to sound board
Damaged board is cut out to a clean edge and a new piece fitted, rather than filled over.
Cracks taped, not caulked
A crack that keeps coming back is taped across its length so it stays closed.
Painted to blend
Primed and painted out to the nearest corner or break, so the patch does not show as a square.

Questions people ask
Can you fix just one hole?
Yes. Small repairs are often fitted around bigger jobs, so ask even for one.
Why does my crack keep coming back?
Usually movement at a joint or over a door. Taped across, it can flex without opening again.
Tell us about the job
The more you can say about the room, the ceiling height and the state of what is there now, the sharper the first answer will be. Most questions are settled in one call.
